The best way to keep your car running safely and reliably as well as maintain your statutory new car warranty is to carry out regular log book servicing.
We don't have to have a physical log book in order to do a Log Book Service - it just means we follow the manufacturers guidelines. We can certainly provide you with a log book to help you record your cars service history, which will be a benefit if you ever decide to sell your vehicle.
Many people believe they must go back to a car dealership for New Car Log Book servicing in order to maintain the warranty. Actually, the ACCC have consistently confirmed that under Australian Law, you are free to have your car service carried out by a mechanic or service centre of your choice provided they are qualified to do so. See our video to learn more.
A maintenance schedule or service schedule is a calendar for what parts or fluids should get replaced on your car and when, or after how many kilometers of travel. A cars maintenance schedule is based on a lot of different things including the make of your car, the model, local driving conditions and driver behaviour.
When you buy a new car it gets delivered with a 'log book'. Think of your log book as a maintenance schedule but written by the people who made your car - it outlines the best way to keep your car in top shape, written by the people who actually built your car. If for whatever reason your car doesn't have a log book your mechanic will still have the knowledge and expertise to recommend an appropriate maintenance schedule for your car based on its age, condition, driving conditions and your driving style.
If your mechanic follows the guidelines in your log book, you know your car is being kept safe and in its best working order according to the manufacturers specifications. A car that has had its proper log book services will drive better, have better fuel efficiency and last longer, with less unexpected repairs or breakdowns. Having a proper log book history also preserves your new cars statutory warranty and improves the resale value of your car.
When your mechanic recommends a repair or replacement under the car service schedule they have your safety, and your car's reliability and longevity in mind. A well maintained car will last longer. It will drive better, use less petrol and keep you and your family safer. Preventative maintenance of your car is just like the old saying "a stitch in time saves nine" for example, mechanics and experts know from years of experience that if your timing belt doesn't get replaced when your car reaches a certain mileage then it will most likely break or fail. If your timing belt does snap or fail your car will stop running and major damage to your engine is the result. This would mean not only an unnecessary breakdown causing inconvenience to you, but you'll need to call a tow truck and face the high cost of repair's which sometimes could be thousands of dollars, that is if your engine is not totally damaged beyond repair.
Do you check my brakes?
Yes. If your brakes are at their worn limit or close to, we give you the option of changing the pads and machining the rotors while the car is with us for it's service. Otherwise we can give you a rough timeline of how long you might have before they require changing.
How often should I change my fuel filter?
We recommend every 30,000km or every third service
How often should I change my cabin air filter?
Usually once a year. We inspect this with every service. We will clean it if possible ie remove leaves, minor debris or we will recommend changing it if it is clogged or damaged. It's important to keep the air inside your car fresh.
What brand of oil do you use?
Penrite, always, we trust this brand for all vehicles. If a customer specifies a genuine oil we can source this.
Can you fill in my log book?
Absolutely. We ask that you leave the log book on the passenger seat for easy access.
Will you check my battery?
Most definitely. We will test your battery at every service and advise you if it is on it's way out.
I have an engine light on. Is that part of my service?
No, it is not part of your service. We can definitely look at the engine light but that is a diagnostic service and requires time to diagnose the issue separately. Once we have identified the issue we will provide a quote for repair. In many cases we can address the issue at the same time while you car is in for a service. In other cases we may need to wait for a part or undertake a major repair over a few days. We will always discuss this with you and plan for the work to be done.
What is included in a service?
Oil and oil filter change including a 65 point safety check which can identify any potential issues in the future.
What happens when you find an issue during my service?
If there are any issues identified during the service, we provide you with a report and quote as quickly as possible. No work is completed unless authorised by you.
