During a recent visit, a 2013 Toyota Hilux underwent our comprehensive 65-point safety inspection. It’s a service designed to identify potential issues before they become major problems, safeguarding both your vehicle and your peace of mind.

The Engine Bay share with you a case study of a recent diagnosis and repair of a Toyota Hilux with improperly fitted lift kit.

Our mechanics discovered that the bush had failed, a common occurrence in vehicles that have been lifted improperly. This oversight can lead to premature bush failure, which, if left unaddressed, might result in a troubling grinding noise or, worse, a front-end collapse.

Understanding the potential risks, our experienced team at The Engine Bay acted swiftly and efficiently to rectify the issue. We replaced the front shockers, upper control arms, and inner CV boots, ensuring the Hilux was restored to its full working order. These repairs are crucial for maintaining the structural integrity and performance of your vehicle, especially when modifications such as suspension lift kits are involved.

A Mechanic to fix Everything! Salisbury Plain

The Engine Bay in Salisbury Plain can perform a range of radiator servicing and repairs on most vehicles, including:

Car engine cooling system failures rank among the top three causes of roadside breakdowns in Australia, with radiator failures accounting for a large percentage of these. A fully functional radiator and cooling system is essential in preventing overheating, which can cause expensive breakdowns and may result in serious engine damage. Modern engines also operate more efficiently within specific temperature ranges.

Not all cooling system failures are explosive in nature; in most cases it's a slow process that may start with you noticing puddles under the car or having to top off the coolant level regularly. These are often signs your radiator may be leaking.

The temperature gauge may indicate a high coolant temperature in slow traffic but returns to normal during high speed driving. In some cases, you may notice a sweetish, “hot water” smell coming from the engine, or even notice actual steam coming from under the bonnet. All these symptoms are serious and should not be ignored.

All Repco Authorised Service centres employ highly trained technicians who are qualified to spot and correct problems which not only affect radiators, but all parts and components of modern engine cooling systems.

When you have your cooling system inspected at a Repco Authorised Service centre, you gain the peace of mind that comes with knowing your vehicle's cooling system is up to the task of keeping your engine running at optimal temperatures.

You'll enjoy the friendly service you expect from a local and trusted independent automotive service centre, combined with the reassurance of the Nationwide Warranty backing provided by Repco Authorised Service.

Radiator and Cooling System Service in Salisbury Plain

If you're wondering what kind of problems bring cars to our mechanical workshop in Salisbury Plain for service and repairs, you might be surprised by the diversity of issues that vehicles face. From air conditioning failures and torque converter malfunctions to faulty control valves and low batteries, the list goes on. Just take a look at some of the cases that we've dealt with recently.

Here is a Comprehensive List of Common Reasons why cars come to The Engine Bay

This 2015 Holden Colorado had a small birthday today. It received a Service, had a brake fluid and coolant change and an automatic transmission service. Nothing nicer than an automotive day spa. This customer tows a caravan regularly and so we recommend an automatic transmission service every 40000km.

A Kia Rio was booked in for an AC diagnosis. The Air conditioning was blowing hot air! The system was pressure tested and checked for leaks. A fault was found with the air conditioner control valve. We supplied and fitted a new air conditioner control valve and the system was refilled with new 134a refrigerant gas.

An unhappy 2016 Ford Ranger was towed to our Salisbury Plain workshop with 'no gears' functioning. After investigation by our experienced technicians a fault was found with the torque convertor. Unfortunately, Torque Convertors were not available to buy for this vehicle, so the original one had to be rebuilt. Once installed .... all systems go!

VY Commodore with window issues. The owner told us that the rear window wouldn't go up or down. Not great on a rainy day! So we pulled off the interior door panel and found an issue with the window regulator which allows the window to slide up and down and it was replaced.

When a 2002 VY Commodore came in due to excessive noise, this is what we found. After the engine had warmed up, we heard a thumping noise coming from the engine. So we put it up on the hoist to investigate further. The noise as found to be in the gearbox. A second hand gearbox was supplied by the customer which we installed. And we made sure to replace the gear oil with fresh fluid..

One of our business customers had issues with their Mitsubishi Canter light commercial truck. It came into the workshop in limp mode (which limits engine speed to help prevent any damage to the engine and is often cause by reduced engine air intake). We initiated an engine diagnosis on the ECU and discovered that the DPF needed a good clean. We performed a DPF burn and also changed the oil and filter. The Canter is now breathing easy again and back on the road.

When a 2015 Holden Trax came in for it's regular service we found that everything was great on the 65 point safety inspection. However, the battery tested low and so after advising the customer and providing a quote, a new battery was fitted

It's fascinating to see how each vehicle comes with its own set of unique issues that we need to troubleshoot and solve. But at The Engine Bay, we're always up for the challenge, with skilled technicians who use the latest tools and techniques to keep your car running smoothly. Why Do Cars Break Down?

Your vehicle is equipped with several different filters, each designed to function within a specific system in your car. At The Engine Bay, we understand these systems thoroughly and provide expert servicing in Salisbury Plain and the surrounding areas.

Put simply, filters work to trap particles that could cause damage or don’t belong in the system they’re protecting. However, all filters have a limited lifespan – once they become clogged with the particles they’re designed to capture, they must be replaced. Failing to replace filters when needed can lead to costly damage in critical parts of your vehicle.

Oil Filter: Ensures the engine oil remains clean and flows efficiently through the engine, preventing wear and tear.
Air Filter: Blocks dirt, debris, and particles from entering the engine that could harm cylinders, pistons and other internal components.
Cabin Air Filter: Protects the car’s ventilation system by filtering out pollen, dust, and bacteria, ensuring clean air inside the vehicle.
Fuel Filter: Prevents contaminants from reaching the carburettor or fuel injectors, helping maintain proper fuel flow and performance.
Transmission Filter: Found in vehicles with automatic transmissions, it removes debris and metal shavings from transmission fluid to protect the gearbox.

Did you know that a clean engine air filter can improve fuel efficiency by up to 10% in some vehicles? Ensuring all filters are in good condition not only safeguards your car’s systems but can also enhance its overall performance.

At The Engine Bay, we offer a comprehensive 65 Point Vehicle Inspection Report with every full car service, available upon request. This includes checking your car’s filters to help you avoid costly repairs and keep your vehicle running smoothly.

Keep your car running smoothly with clean filters. Discover the types, benefits, and expert services offered by The Engine Bay in Salisbury Plain and surrounding areas.
